About
I’m Alan J. Boyce — a senior software engineer based in Austin, Texas, with about a decade of production experience. I build backend and full-stack systems and spend a fair amount of time on the practice of engineering itself: architecture, tooling, and how AI is changing the way software gets built.
Engineering
My core stack is Node.js, TypeScript, NestJS, PostgreSQL, and AWS. I work AI-native — Claude Code and OpenAI Codex are part of my daily loop — and I’ve built architectural tooling around that practice, including goodbot-ai, an open-source CLI that generates architectural guardrails for AI coding agents from a canonical source.
A few things I’ve done:
- Co-founder / CTO at Streak, a music-event ticketing platform, where I owned the architecture end to end — NestJS with DDD and Ports-and-Adapters on ECS Fargate, RDS, ElastiCache, CloudFront, and more.
- Federal contracting earlier in my career (Tesla Government / NGA / State Department), including OAuth 2.0 security work.
- M.S. in Software Engineering, George Mason University.
I care about architecture that survives contact with production: prevention, tolerance, and recovery baked in rather than bolted on.
